I got the eighth edition of this book it has more content than the third edition so I would definitely check it out.

I wonder when that 3rd edition was published haha. I studied out of the 11th edition like 5 or 6 years ago. The applications version of the 11th edition has a whole chapter going over 20 different applications of linear algebra! Toward the end of the semester, my teacher had students choose an application (or section of the book we didn't cover in class) to present as a project. Fun times.
Yup, this is good first book for linear algebra. Two other ones I like are "Linear Algebra and It's Applications" by David C. Lay and "Linear Algebra: A Modern Introduction" by David Poole. A good differential equations/linear algebra hybrid is "Differential Equations & Linear Algebra" by Stephen W. Goode.
