  1. 40:24 just for clarity so if you subtract organically, the answer should be 3x / 5y^5 since you would need to flip the negative exponents. Because 9-12 = -3 and 15 – 30 = -15, but the -3 will be placed on top as a positive and the -15 would be on the bottom as a positive. Therefore, 3/3 = 1 leaving the x and 15 / 3 = 5. Is this right?
